Shaya Motamedi

Shaya Motamedi is an Iranian-Candian grade 10 student, who wrote this book when she was in grade 6, She has had a love for writing since she was in the third grade.

She enjoys reading horror & thriller novels. Her other passions include being on her school’s basketball team and playing the piano. Shaya currently lives with her family in Vancouver, British Columbia located in southwest of Canada.

The Garden of Magic and Witchcraft is her first published book, initially written when she was eleven years old.

About the Translator

Mohammad Atashbarg

Mohammad A. Atashbarg, born in Yazd,Iran in 1948, is a passionate writer and translator.

His first short story was published while he was still in high school. He earned his M.A. as a top graduate from the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran, and later pursued three years of graduate studies at Loyola University of Chicago. 

Over the years, he has been author or co-author of  few translated  books and has written nearly fifty articles across various fields, including international law and international relations,social  issues  and satire.

Today, as a proud grandfather, he’s translating a book written by his teenage granddaughter—continuing his lifelong dedication to language and learning.

The story you have just read is more than an engaging mystery—it is the result of a beautiful collaboration between a granddaughter and her grandfather. Shaya wrote the original story in English, and her grandfather translated it with great care and affection. This intergenerational partnership has breathed new life into the book and made it even more special.
